I had an interesting conversation with a repairman that came to my house a few days ago. At the end of the repair, when we got a few minutes to talk, I asked him if he knew the Lord as his Savior, and did he know if he was going to heaven.
The crazy conversation that followed jumped from one weird topic to another as he went off in all kinds of directions.
Aliens.
Do the Jews know about Jesus?
My brother doesn’t believe, so I don’t think I will either.
I talk to God every day because he spared my life in a bad car accident.
Did Moses really part the Red Sea?
Isn’t the Bible just written by men?

Aliens!
Are you a preacher?
You’re making that up!
I don’t think it’s an accident that I’m here at your house.
By the end of the conversation I felt like the Fuller Brush man trying to make a sale. And it was a hard sell. I had to bring out all my fancy attachments.
He had bits and pieces of bible knowledge woven in with superstitions and folk lore; and a more than healthy dose of confused, illogical thinking. At the end, I handed him a tract and told him the time of our services. More importantly, I asked God to give him clarity of thought and lead him to the absolute truth of His Word and salvation.
Clarity of thought and absolute truth. How important are these two things?
Absolute truth is the foundation on which all other truth can rest. Without it, there is no anchor for your mind. You will be a-flutter with every thought and emotion that drifts by.

Ephesians 4:14 – That we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
Is it possible to live without being tossed about by every new thought and idea that presents itself? Is there an absolute truth?
That’s the big question, isn’t it? I believe there is. I believe that a heart that desires truth will find it. A heart that seeks the Truth of who God is – will find the Truth who God is.
Hebrews 11:6 -- God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Sadly, many people do not seek to know the truth of who God is, as He wants to be known. Instead, they build a box and fill it with all the ideas of what they think God should be and how He should behave, and then they expect God to jump in their box.
That’s not how this works. The beauty of truth is that it stands alone. It doesn’t need our agreement or approval. Truth is truth. You need oxygen to breathe, without it, you’ll die. You may believe you breathe fairy dust, but a few minutes without oxygen and the truth of what you need to breathe will be evident.
So it is with God. You may have all your own concepts and ideas, but sooner or later, the truth of who God is will be revealed, either in this life or the next. And like a life deprived of oxygen results in death, a life deprived of a personal relationship with a living God, results in eternal, spiritual death.

It seems that the days on this earth are winding down. If there was ever a time to consider the things of God, this is it.
Seek after the Lord – He WILL reward your seeking heart. He WILL show you who He is. He WILL lead you to His Word, to a church, to other believers. He is not willing that you should perish. He desires to have you live in heaven for eternity.

My prayer on the day that I got saved went something like this: God, I don’t know who you are. I don’t know where you are. I don’t know who is right and who is wrong. I only know that I am desperate, desperate, to know the truth. I don’t want to make up my own version of God. I want to know who you say you are. Please – help!
I pray God will give you clarity of thought as you read this blog. Don’t try and stuff Him into your box of preconceived ideas. Allow God to show you His sovereignty, His Holiness and the greatness of His Redemption.
While it is true that we are terrible, terrible sinners – the perfection of God’s plan is that He is a wonderful, glorious, and gracious Savior. Your sins are forgiven. If you ask Christ to save you, you will be saved. All you need to do is believe—and that is the absolute truth.
